i'm guessing that for the film, they simply spliced together the english and french versions. there is no official version which has both.

hope that helped!

Well, that makes sense. It's just too bad they didn't put the spliced together version Tarantino put in his film on the CD. That's sucks. Thanks for clearing that up, noise!

Good call. I remember listening to the Dazed and Confused soundtrack a lot when I was a wee lad.

I think A Clockwork Orange's soundtrack was perfect for the film.
Also, the Forrest Gump soundtrack has quite a few good tracks on it.

Psy-Fi 12-12-2009 11:47 PM

Repo Man.

Bravo! A small group of MB members appear to know the difference between a film score and a movie soundtrack compilition. The distinction is very important.

I'm not going to bore anybody with a lecture on the fine points of music for film. All the information you need to know is readily available on Google. That being said, my favorite film score composers are Yann Teirsen, Angelo Baldalamenti, Phillip Glass, John Barry, Bernard Hermann, Earle Hagen, Nino Rota, Ennio Morricone and Ry Cooder. You can hear film scores by any of these composers by entering their names into a search at YouTube.

Jimi Xenon 01-03-2010 08:01 AM

I would say the Wayne's World soundtrack and the Dumb and Dumber soundtrack are very good.

It's a shame Badalamenti seems to be only known by David Lynch fans, though I think the guy only functions properly when collaborating with this guy. Like hearing Mulholland Drive's ost and then hearing his work on A Very Long Engagement, I wonder where this guy vanished.

You've got a very nice list going on here btw.

Insane Guest 03-31-2010 07:47 PM

Forrest Gump had a surprisingly good soundtrack.

This song is pretty sad in some way. It gives hope though. It's the main theme.

Throw in some Creedence, Elvis, The Doors, Bob Dylan, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and others and you got yourself a soundtrack.

Boomer in C minor 03-31-2010 10:00 PM

well i'm not sure about best but these are good. i'm assuming that were not delving into score here just soundtracks. i usually count the number of albums i bought because of the soundtrack to be my guide

Driver3 based on a video game, still a great mix of songs with iggy pop narrating between songs

Wicker park a good movie but a great soundtrack.

crow t robot 04-01-2010 12:34 AM

The soundtrack for Casino is fantastic but it would have been so much more if it had included all the Stones and Louis Prima from the movie...probably would have needed a third disc though

Chubbosaurus 04-01-2010 12:43 AM

The soundtrack to "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?"

So very, very good. That soundtrack got me into bluegrass music.

It's not fantastic but as soundtracks go it's good.

Best Movie Soundtracks

Movie soundtracks can be mind blowing, or super sucky. Also since they're more like a mixed CD than a normal album by an artist they can allow exsposure to new music.

Is there a movie soundtrack that you love?

I have two. First the soundtrack for Harold and Maude, Cat Stevens made the whole thing specifically for the movie. Second is the Juno soundtrack, cliche, but oh well. :P

Guybrush 04-27-2010 09:25 AM

I'm quite fond of the wicker man soundtrack .. It may be a bit cheesy, but some of the songs are brilliant, I think. It's main appeal is in the folky songs like "corn rigs" or "willow's song". Most of the songs were composed by Paul Giovanni and played by the band Magnet.

Here's a sample :)

Keigh 06-10-2010 08:48 AM

I used to be a big soundtrack freak when I wanted that to be my career. Not so much these days because there are more pop tunes than orchestral in movies these days. Nothing as interesting as the classics. My all-time favorites are "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "Planet of the Apes". Amazing scores by John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith. Also:

Unbreakable- James Howard Newton

Inside Man- Terence Blanchard

Fistful of Dynamite- Ennio Morricone

The House of Flying Daggers- Tan Dun

The Cell- Howard Shore (anything with Shore is usually good).

Good Night and Good Luck- various jazz standards performed with the amazing Dianne Reeves on vocals.

Heavy Metal- Elmer Bernstein (the orchestral score album, not the rock songs soundtrack)

Blade Runner- Vangelis

Strychnine 06-11-2010 09:44 AM

Pump Up the Volume comes to mind. Much Leonard Cohen love.

Also, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is badass. Love the pirate scene when Search & Destroy comes on.

And and, also. I really dug the Dead Man soundtrack. Neil Young did the whole thing I'm pretty sure.

Goblin Tears 06-11-2010 10:36 AM

Both Kill Bill soundtracks are amazing. And let's not forget Prince's Purple Rain! Not only his best soundtrack, imo, but also his best album overall. Bernard Herrmann is also one of the most notable composers in film soundtracks, performing classic work for films such as Psycho, Taxi Driver, and many others. He's a concrete talent in his own right.

Sljslj 06-11-2010 05:49 PM

How 'bout Indiana Jones?
Eleventy-four versions of the same damn song lmao.

jackhammer 06-11-2010 05:55 PM

Terrible movie (Spawn) but it did produce this fantastic collaboration:

mohtaref 06-17-2010 05:02 AM

zolhof 08-31-2010 10:37 PM

Jacob's Ladder, Lord of the Rings, Dracula, Godfather, Cape Fear, Taxi Driver.....

Trauma 09-11-2010 01:04 AM

I've been listening to a lot of Ennio Morricone lately.
I've liked him for a long time, but recently purchased a compilation of songs he composed for several different films.
Now I'm addicted!
Everyone's heard the theme from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
But, if you haven't listened to him, you should definitely check him out.

ChrisRC 12-15-2010 09:09 AM

Most of Martin Scorcese films have fantastic soundtracks. Mean Streets, The Departed, Goodfellas and Casino being the ones that spring to mind first!

I also thought the Karen O (and The Kids) stuff for Where The Wild Things Are was brilliant. I listen to that more as an album than a soundtrack though if that makes sense? In the context of the film its perfect but on its own its also just a great album.
