You can hear how pioneering he was transitioning from that 50’s pop sound to the more soulful sounds that came after his early death in 64.

His death is pretty interesting. The most likely story is he brought a hooker back to the hotel, ****ed her, went for a piss, she snagged his trousers with his wallet in it, he chased after her with his willy exposed and kicked up a fuss in the hotel lobby scaring the **** out of the female night manager who responded by putting two bullets into him.

Etta James identified his corpse (nice billing if they were on tour together) and claimed he was Emmet Tilled. I’m sure it didn’t look pleasant but I figure James’ impression of his disfigurement was exaggerated by shock.

Elisa Boyer - The Hooker (and damn she was fine)
