As a bass player, I gravitated to funk so a lot of the groups I like are directly related to the bassists in the bands that influenced me as a player. These include:

The Brothers Johnson (Louis Johnson)
Brick (Ray Ransom)
Slave (Mark Adams)
Lakeside (Marvin Craig and Otis Stokes)
Cameo (Aaron Mills)

just to name a few
