Thanks!
Havens, while cool, is a little too folky for me. The Isley brothers seem okay, but they sound kinda generic to me. I'll have to give them several listens though, I'm new to the genre and bound to dismiss stuff based on my ignorance. |

Where should I start?
I'm interested in funk but don't really know what artists/songs should I listen to. I would like to begin with funk (a bit older one). Ty you guys.

There's a thread somewhere asking the exact same question, I tried to find it & link to it but the search function of this board sucks balls so I couldn't find it.

As for funk recs, Thrust by Herbie Hancock is my favourite. Anything from Funkadelic and Parliament is good as well. A few others Miles Davis - On the Corner Prince - 1999 James Brown - Hell War - The World is a Ghetto |
Parliament's Chocolate City and The Clones Of Dr Funkenstein are good albums to start with P-Funk. I find these two records more easy to get into than the Funkadelic ones.
As Frownland suggested Hell by James Brown already, I will add his The Payback LP but most of his discography is recommended. Then try some Ohio Players and early Kool & The Gang. |
Not a big soul/funk fan, but really digging Baby Huey lately.
Can anybody recommend similar music? |
