I've seen P-Funk/ George Clinton twice. They become kind of fuzzy/ indistinct after a while, and repetitive. Maceo Parker's show remains clean, distinct, fresh, and classy- even on the same songs.

I think my favourite Parliament would have to be Chocolate City.

I think i'd like to expand my musical interest into the world of soul/funk.
Any recommendations for funk beginner ears? I want to get my groove on. |
I just recently discovered Gil-Scott Heron after hearing about his passing in the news. I was wondering if anyone could recommend some other 70's soul/funk/jazz in a similar vein?
really what I'm looking for is something with the dark meaningful lyrics and musicianship in his earlier albums. |
Eddie Hazel
Looking for similar artists/guitarists to Eddie Hazel. I'm new to his music, so if anyone could recommend some albums, I would appreciate it ! Love that type of guitar work.

Music Recommendations

.u Edgar Winter's record Recycled is a great mix of soul, funk and blues. Check out the songs Competition and Parallel Love. Nice choppy guitar in this stuff. Stevie Wonder's "Fufilling First Finale" is a great record with a great track "Bird of Beauty. A little more out there stuff in the jazz funk vein is by John Scofield entitled "A Go Go". If you are a musical adventurer I highly recommend this release. I am currently in a R&B/soul original band called Escape Fantasy. You can check our debut CD at CDbaby.com. So much music so little time. Take Care. |
