hey I'm looking for funk recommendations, specifically guitar driven funk. Im a pretty big chili peppers fan, and I'm looking for other funk(y) bands where the guitar plays a major role, as opposed to having a big horn section

There's some newer soul/funk out there with really solid horn sections. These are more funky than anything, but I'd recommend Lettuce, Amnesty, Soulive, Addison Groove Project, The Brecker Brothers, The Daktaris, Dumpstaphunk, Galactic, Jive, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Ulu, Anything with Maceo Parker.

Check out the song Maggot Brain by Funkadelic. You have to skip ahead a minute or two, but it's essentially a ten minute funk/soul guitar solo by Eddie Hazel. Everything I learned about funk guitar started there. Actually, everything on the album Maggot Brain is a good place to start. Also, I'd check out Eric Krasno or Will Bernard.

Jarle Bernhoft. A great Norwegian soul/funk artist, a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter with a characteristic voice. He has released one studio album and a double live album as a solo artist. You'll have a hard time finding his albums if you're outside of Norway, but check out his solo album on Spotify. It's actually called Ceramik City Chronicles, but unfortunately mistagged as Ceramic City Chronicles on Spotify.

He's supposedly a great live artist, too, though I can't say that as I haven't seen him. ):

I recommend everyone who has a Spotify user to listen to his latest album Solidarity Breaks.

soul

I'm fairly new to classic soul music and am looking to put a mix together
Of songs similar to At Last by Etta James. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Can anyone suggest some really funky stuff that is a little bit more undergound? Maybe with good breaks? Anything is appreciated.

One of my favorite single's from the 70s.

Just saw Maceo Parker a couple months ago. His band is ridiculous. They were so tight and profuse at the same time, I didn't even want to laugh or clap or whistle, or I might miss something, so I stood there in mid-laugh with my mouth open like and idiot.

Marcus Shadd was the drummer. Damn. Makes me want to quit. Maceo's true nepwhew.

I recommend this show to anyone, and I'm pretty sure they are in Italy or somewhere in Eureope right now.
