Seems like Low Rider by War has been around forever too. |
So I'm pretty fresh to the funk and soul. I really dig Hot Chocolate's 'Brother Louie', most Larry Graham stuff, and the sultry kind of thing you hear in depressing city movies. Any recommendations? I guess you could say I'm mainly looking for groovy funk with a dark soul. Something to drink to, not dance to.

Can you recommend some of the best of those? Not too educated on that film niche.

Some of the best soul and funk music ever recorded can be found on numerous soundtracks from from the genre and era. They cover a range of different styles. You might also want to check into compilations from various blaxploitation films from the period. Lots of great ones out there if you look for them. |
Try some Quincy Jones:

Does anybody know how The Impressions are after Curtis Mayfield left? I am wondering if I should bother to listen to that material. Thanks for any help.
