so i've been playing through diamond life a few times. i had heard "smooth operator" in the past and was worried that would be the only really strong track. especially since it was her debut...but damn i am impressed. very smooth and relaxing...and just about every song is a killer.
not to mention she was damn sexy in her heyday...

New album sucks. Very disappointing After ten years out of the game I was hoping for something that challenged me or at least stayed to a similar formula and beat it. Most of the songs are bland acoustic numbers that are instantly forgettable.

Just had a listen, great stuff. But I do miss Paul Denman's SMOOOTH as bass playing and that beautiful Stingray tone, it seems really minimal here. I'm always a sucker for subtleties in songs, and there's plenty of it here - the little keyboard flourishes, the distorted guitars and the bass harmonics. Like it a lot!

It has been said that her sound was one of the first to bridge the gap between dinner table Soul and Trip Hop. Of course both of those genres are not always liked by many which is understandable but her voice is pure honey whilst lacking in that natural raw Soul sound of the more illustrious Female vocalists from where her music gains influence from.
