Another James Brown bassist was Tim Drummond who played on tunes as "Licking Stick." He was James's first white bassist. Oddly, he went on to play for Neil Young whom he has been with since the 70s.

I find it ironic the connection Neil Young has had with funky bass players during his career, I mean, especially when you consider the style of music he plays. He used to room with Rick James early during his his career also if I'm correct, something to that extent anyway.

Love James. You already posted my favorite song from him "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag" in the first post so there isn't much to be said but I really do believe he was a legend. Not a lot of funk/soul artists have been able to touch upon his creative and unique style, even without comparisons, he was definitely one of the best.
