Really the standard by which all front men should be judged.

Energy and enthusiasm and real charisma. A fuckin genius to be sure, but more importantly impeccable timing. He helped launch the greatest era of music and did it in a way that was sure to get folks attention.

For sure! I just got Star Time, complete with extra videos. It's a really great find, some of the funkiest music I've ever heard!

Gotta love that James Brown sound.:)

I Feel Good
Papa's Got a Brand New Bag
Out of Sight
Night Train

And yes I even like Living in America.;)

All classics.

The album he did in 74 IN HELL is the **** but still it has not been rereleased. Old vinyl are going for a fortune.

From "Sex Machine" to around about 1975, he was near enough flawless in his output. Everyone needs to hear some of his live albums, Live at the Apollo is the obvious choice, but also amazing are Vols II & III of Live at the Apollo, and Live at L'Olympia is probably the best of all his live albums.

Also worth finding (it's readily available on the internet) is the bootleg live album Live in Zaire. This was recorded in 1974, so you get incredible live versions of The Payback, The Boss and Get On the Good Foot, none of which appear on any of the aforementioned albums.

Finally, also great were the solo records by the JBs (his backing band) and the various members of his entourage that were recorded around this time. The James Brown's Funky People comps (there are three) are all utterly essential, and there's plenty more great stuff on the studio albums of the JBs.

He's the man. Influenced everyone from Sly Stone, to Funkadelic, Rap, Prince and Michael Jackson.

Not many people can say they basically invented an entire genre of music. JB's one of the few who could.
