I totally confess to not getting the whole Amy Winehouse thing... in any way, shape or form...

I have been inspiring her back to black.
If she could come back, I am ready to be black.

I agree. For example, if I wanted to start a thread dedicated to Amy Winehouse's videos so that people could post them, I might be told that I should keep them in *this* thread.

I agree.

Well, skaltezon, here we are in the other thread, since a moderator decided that Amy's Death thread can only contain sentiments like "R.I.P." (as if there were or is peace after death). What do you feel about Amy Winehouse's death? :)

I wonder...if Amy Winehouse had been a mass murderer musician, would people allow a thread about her death to contain any gleeful gloating or disrespect?

As you recall, some people over in the "Amy Winehouse Pronounced Dead" thread weren't very sympathic toward her since she was addicted to alcohol and other drugs. I wrote in a post that the mods deleted that I wish people who feel Winehouse got what she deserved would recall the words of former First Lady Betty Ford (recently deceased):

Quote:

Betty Ford - on Addictions

"It's an insidious thing, and I mean to rid myself of its damaging effects," she said of her multiple addictions. It involved a battle she had waged all through her public life

Her very name became synonymous with intensive, serious rehab treatment for a disease that can hit anyone — a disease, she explained, not loose morals or lack of willpower.

http://www.time.com/time/nation/arti...082229,00.html
I'm afraid people have forgotten Betty Ford's message. If they understood it, they might not be so unsympathetic toward Amy Winehouse's struggles with addictions.

Finally, what do you think of Amy's music? I didn't like it.

No illegal drugs in Amy's system when she died!

I just read that Amy Winehouse had no illegal drugs in her system when she died:

Quote:

Tests Show No Illegal Drugs in Winehouse Body | Gallery | Wonderwall

Amy Winehouse had no illegal drugs in her system when she died, and it is still unclear what killed the singer, her family said Tuesday.

The family said in a statement that toxicology tests showed "alcohol was present," but it hasn't yet been determined if it contributed to her death.

The 27-year-old soul diva, who had battled drug and alcohol addiction
for years, was found dead in her London home on July 23, and an initial post-mortem failed to determine the cause of death.
Her dad talked about her earlier struggles with drug addiction and her on-going battle with alcoholism that stayed with her to the end:

Quote:

Winehouse's father, Mitch, has said his daughter had beaten her drug dependency three years before her death, but he admitted she was still struggling to control her drinking after several weeks of abstinence.

Mitch Winehouse told mourners at the singer's July 26 funeral that she had said to him, "'Dad I've had enough of drinking, I can't stand the look on your and the family's faces anymore.'"
I'm wondering if her death was just due to all the stress on, and damage to, her body from the substance abuse over the years. It is sad, because she might have enjoyed so many more years of life. I have sympathy for her due to her struggles.

I edited the post slightly to reflect your true thoughts. ;)

OT...The no drugs in her system news doesn't come as a surprise to me despite her track record.
On her death one of my first thoughts to how she may have died turned to alcohol withdrawal.
She tried to quit alcohol far too quickly by going cold turkey.
Not a great idea.

That's a good point. Alcohol withdrawal can be lethal and people need medical treatment to manage the symptoms safely:

Quote:

Alcohol withdrawal syndrome - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The severity of the alcohol withdrawal syndrome can vary from mild symptoms such as mild sleep disturbances and mild anxiety to very severe and life threatening including delirium, particularly visual hallucinations in severe cases and convulsions (which may result in death).

Treatment of alcohol withdrawal syndrome can be managed with various pharmaceutical medications including barbiturates and clonidine. Certain vitamins are also an important part of the management of alcohol withdrawal syndrome.

R.I.P. Amy Winehouse. Wish she could've had more music to expose people to the talent she had

Noise Wall 04-13-2012 03:55 PM

Her firs album, Frank, was pretty good. I am not sure about her second, never a big enough fan to really dive into her work. However, I will say that a few tracks, especially the hidden tracks Cherry and Mr. Magic, were damn good.

Moving the conversation alone, how good is Back In Black?

Rhetorical question. I know; it's brilliant.

It's one of those critically acclaimed albums that may actually live up to the hype that has preceded it.
Winehouse's vocals and sorrow-drenched style is sublime on the record.
Recently, got the deluxe edition, which includes some interesting more up-beat tracks than one would consider the norm of Amy's work to have been.
Although to me it's clear her best work was the downbeat soulful tracks like Tears Dry on Their Own, You Know I'm No Good and Back in Black which lends its name to the album.

what's wrong with Amy? Poor girl got the shaft in life and in death... she was talented... there is no doubt, just because she was born in the wrong time doesn't mean she can't hold down the soul....

Not Amy but equally as talented...

CrazyVegn 05-11-2013 11:11 AM

I DO really like her lyrics but the music isnt soulful or funky. I always thought she was trying to sound like she was from 1940s radio. Is that natural?

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-11-2013 11:21 AM

As Amy Winehouse's music can basically be described as Soul Jazz it can either go in one thread or the other.
As I don't feel like moving it it's staying in this one.

Justthefacts 05-11-2013 01:14 PM

As it should.

I think she wanted to be more of a modern day version of The Ronettes.
