You in the U.K now Matious?

Sparky 08-08-2008 02:44 PM

Yeah. Unfortunately.

The charm of the accent has already worn off.

And i can't believe you have a show called "last choir standing"

If she looked like she did on the right yes. Now she is an old skank. There is a lesson here kiddies-DON'T DO DRUGS.

Anybody else think Amy Winehouse is VERY overrated?

I know I sure as hell do.

In fact, I have yet to meet a single non-white person who likes her music.

Janszoon 01-10-2009 11:15 AM

Yes, extremely.

toejamfootballs 01-10-2009 02:46 PM

She's not a bad singer, you can search Youtube for her live performances she is a very soulful, jazz/blues based singer, better than most singers out there but yes I agree, she is pretty overrated her drug use gets her more attention than her artistic abilities.

I'm a non white female who enjoys her music just not her ridiculous antics.

re:

CandyLady - you're unique then.

I don't know a single black girl at my university who likes Amy Winehouse.

If anything many of them view her and Joss Stone as rip-offs who capitalize on black music. And what's worse - they're foreigners.....

CandyLadyNJ66 01-12-2009 10:32 PM

Some may view them as such for sure but not all. Well the British have been been idolizing as well as singing american music forms including music that was primarily dominated by blacks at one time for eons now. All that doesn't matter one bit to me. I think Amy has a good set of pipes and when she recorded her two albums, created something very special in my opinion. What's sad is that her talent has utterly gone to waste and so has her mind/body.

Does smoking crack on a Saturday constitute a violation of the 39 prohibited categories of work?

I would think the "kindling a fire" prohibition would be an even bigger impediment to smoking rock for her.

perhaps,
but if she's smoking crack in the first place, do you think she cares much about that ****??

what i'm most curious about is how adept her drug-addled mind is with judaic sorcery and/or if it effects it in any particular ways

Judaic sorcery? What do you mean? what does her being jewish have to do with anything?

Sneer 01-15-2009 08:12 PM

She is ridiculously talented, that voice is killer. Yet unfortunately the ridiculous doesnt end with her talent.

We're going to have to agree to disagree then. I think it's quasi-racist. She's a white girl who's too unoriginal to come up with her own music.

Besides the fact I'm not a big fan of UK music anyways...

right-track 01-31-2009 02:39 PM

I'll tell you about UK music.
It's the Brits that have been keeping soul going for the past 40 years.
Long after you threw it to one side for the next sound.

adidasss 01-31-2009 02:41 PM

Every time this thread gets bumped I expect to hear that she's finally kicked the bucket...I'm awful I know...*sigh*

Seems like it's finally getting a resurgence in America though, with artists like John Legend and others on the rise.

ninaNirvana 02-03-2009 03:17 PM

She's got talent but I have been turned off by the racists remarks. :-(

I never really saw what was so great about her before her popularity increased... then she became the tabloid bad girl, and I completely lost interest through overexposure...

She kinda reminds of Macy Gray, middling to Ok artist who winds up gaining notoriety despite their quite average material...

Her music isn't that bad. It's mellow and nice to listen to. It's just a shame she is more popular for being a dumb crackwhore than for her music.

I never understood the popularity of Macy Gray. She reminds me of a female Lil' Wayne with her nasal sound.

Grievous Angel 03-16-2009 10:41 PM

Amy Winehouse, a jazz or blues artist? :yikes:

Amy is decent, I dig Back to Black, that's got some great vocals to it

Keigh 03-16-2009 11:09 PM

I think she may have the talent to be a jazz or blues artist but she probably doesn't really possess the knowledge or have enough class or style to pull it off convincingly. She's an example of someone whose squandered her gift.

right-track 03-17-2009 02:54 AM

She started out as a jazz singer gigging the jazz clubs. She comes from a strong jazz background. Her first album is heavily influenced by jazz.
This thread was made early in her career at the outset of Back to Black when her direction was still unclear.
I could go on.

However, I'm sick and tired of people posting..."Oh my God what's Amy doing here in the jazz & blues forum???!!!" :yikes:

So here it is in the Soul & Funk forum with apologies to those who know better.

Keigh 03-18-2009 10:14 AM

Not really impressed by anything I've heard from her. She's got alot of growing to do still. The talent is there but nothing spectacular, original or unique. She could benefit from working as a back-up singer to a more experienced belter. Many of the best lead singers started out as background singers. But as long as she's got a large following and a record company to keep putting her through rehab, my opinion doesn't mean much here.

right-track 03-18-2009 10:18 AM

I've got to disagree with you there Keigh.
Her talent is obvious and her potential is huge.
As a singer she well respected by her peers and that includes some serious musicians.
Whether she'll actually realise her full potential is another matter, so I'll agree with you there.

Keigh 03-18-2009 10:28 AM

Well regardless of what other's say, I don't really see anything that special but I will agree the potential is there but like I said it's only my opinion.

kniff0311 03-22-2009 01:59 PM

she is talented but i'd have to be in the mood to listen
