She's got talent but I have been turned off by the racists remarks. :-(

I never really saw what was so great about her before her popularity increased... then she became the tabloid bad girl, and I completely lost interest through overexposure...

She kinda reminds of Macy Gray, middling to Ok artist who winds up gaining notoriety despite their quite average material...

Her music isn't that bad. It's mellow and nice to listen to. It's just a shame she is more popular for being a dumb crackwhore than for her music.

I never understood the popularity of Macy Gray. She reminds me of a female Lil' Wayne with her nasal sound.

Amy Winehouse, a jazz or blues artist?

Amy is decent, I dig Back to Black, that's got some great vocals to it

I think she may have the talent to be a jazz or blues artist but she probably doesn't really possess the knowledge or have enough class or style to pull it off convincingly. She's an example of someone whose squandered her gift.

She started out as a jazz singer gigging the jazz clubs. She comes from a strong jazz background. Her first album is heavily influenced by jazz.
This thread was made early in her career at the outset of Back to Black when her direction was still unclear.
I could go on.

However, I'm sick and tired of people posting..."Oh my God what's Amy doing here in the jazz & blues forum???!!!"

So here it is in the Soul & Funk forum with apologies to those who know better.

Not really impressed by anything I've heard from her. She's got alot of growing to do still. The talent is there but nothing spectacular, original or unique. She could benefit from working as a back-up singer to a more experienced belter. Many of the best lead singers started out as background singers. But as long as she's got a large following and a record company to keep putting her through rehab, my opinion doesn't mean much here.

I've got to disagree with you there Keigh.
Her talent is obvious and her potential is huge.
As a singer she well respected by her peers and that includes some serious musicians.
Whether she'll actually realise her full potential is another matter, so I'll agree with you there.

Well regardless of what other's say, I don't really see anything that special but I will agree the potential is there but like I said it's only my opinion.
