I'll echo what was posted earlier since the Youtube clip is gone (and I'm gonna assume it's the same song)

And thousands of guitarists got inspiration from Mayfield without even knowing it through Hendrix.

So tragic what happened to him.

^ True. Hendrix was deeply influenced by Curtis and you can really hear it in those spacious open-tuned chords of "Little Wing". You can hear it as well in this early runthrough of "(Have You Ever Been To) Electric Ladyland".

Soundtrack to Superfly is defintely contender for his best and his best album to start on too. If you want to go by tracks my top five greatest from him IMO are:

-Superfly
-Move On Up
-Pusherman
-Get Down
-(Don't Worry) If There's A Hell Below Were All Gonna Go

Those are all his funkiest songs easy, honorable mentions go to "Kung Fu" and "Underground" and "Do Do Wap Is Strong In Here" and lastly "Freddies Dead"

check those out when you get the time.

Mayfield is definitely a legend I enjoy a lot of his stuff my personal fav though like I already mentioned is "Give Get Take and Have". Great soul tunes and I usually don't care for love songs but man that stuffs just smooth and really grows on you. The backup vocals on that album are amazing as well. My second fav would be his first "Curtis" with "Superfly" a close third. "Back to the World" is another very solid album.

I really liked "Jesus" from "There's No Place Like America Today". Few good tracks on that album but didn't care for it as a whole. Same way I feel about "Roots".

His last album had a couple pretty decent tracks as well most notably "Ms. Martha" and "New World Order".

I had to take a break on the Impressions as I'm busy recollecting my albums to find best quality but am still curious about their post Mayfield material if anyone knows about it.

Edit : and I have no source for this but heard through the grapevine that apparently Curtis Mayfield was Bob Marleys idol.

Post Mayfield Impressions were still pretty good, "Preacher Man" is a solid album with some gritty political funk cuts.

His first three albums are generally considered classics, so I would start there, Curtis is my personal favourite but Super Fly is probably more commercially accessible.

'move on up' is my favourite, that song always puts me in a good mood and i never get bored of it. I also love 'little child runnin' wild' and 'let's do it again' with the staple singers.
