Very underrated artist, I think a lot of folks (novice music fans) get the idea that 70's soul\funk was essentially disco music.
Mayfield's first two early 70's albums "Curtis" and "Roots" remain to this day two of my favorites of the era outside the mega bands like Zeppelin and the Who. Roots is especially good "Get Down" gets a lot of love, but it's the so-called filler tracks that separate that album from all of the post Super-Fly stuff. |

I didn't know anything about Curtis Mayfield aside from his name until I watched Superfly for the first time a couple weeks ago. Holy crap is that soundtrack good! Definitely on my list of albums to buy.

Hello I am hoping for hellp with a question. I just went through Curtis Mayfield man he sure is great my favorite album is "Give, Get, Take and Have".
Anyhow I decided I might as well go through the Impressions now and was just compiling the discography. I was wondering if the material of the Impressions after Mayfield left is any good. Any thoughts? Should I just listen up till "Check Out Your Mind"? Thanks for any help. |

Curtis has always been one of my absolute favorite Soul & Funk artists. His track "Move On Up" remains to be the single most empowering song I have ever heard along with my number one favorite of his. I'm also a huge fan of all his stuff, notably the entire Roots album, his debut, and the Superfly soundtrack. All 10/10 albums imo.
