Your taste is impeccable, VEGAN. Your ear too.
What you have to understand is that songs like these were often recorded in one take.
It makes her performance all the more impressive.

^ In this track she makes a slight mistake, singing spy instead of fly at about 1:14.
I'd like to see some modern "soul singers" attempt this one without going blue in the face and passing out before the end of the song.
Possibly my favourite female soul singer of all time.

Will you marry me?

Here's a tune that blows my mind:

The pairing of a fantastic voice with a really bouncy, danceable tune. Terrific.

'War'- Edwin Starr

'Ball Of Confusion'- The Temptations

'For The Love Of Money'- The O' Jays

'What's Going On?'- Marvin Gaye

'Superstition'- Stevie Wonder

'Chocolate City'- Parliament

I prefer when the soul ROCKED! 1970-1973 were pivotal years in soul music at the time, in my opinion.

Exclamation

Ahhh mannnn, best of the 60's/70's?
I could go DEEEEEP here....but since I'm a newbie, I'll work my way up respectfully.

Rather than go with the obvious, I'll start off with the small/mid-level labels along with classic artists/groups such as;

Fantasy Records- Side Effects (Always There)//Pleasure (Bouncy Lady)//The BlackByrds (Rock Creek Park; BlackByrds Theme)

Warner Bros- Tower of Power (What Is Hip)

Polydor- James Brown (Sex Machine; I could go on....)

Tamla- Eddie Kendricks (Girl You Need A Change of Mind)

Original Records- Dike & The Blazers (Let a Woman Be a Woman & Let a Man Be a Man....) [a record sampled many times by both rap groups & today artists- check it out on YouTube]

I'll stop here & continue in the future.....thanks!

where to start...meet the temptations[1964]great album with a dual purpose,an introduction as well as a greatest hits compilation...more power to the people-the chi-lites[1971]this is the one that pushed them to the top of the hill as far as seventies soul groups went...the ojays in Philadelphia[1969]great lp considered a classic today...special lady-ray,goodman&brown[1979]their best album of the many they've made check out the cool[thrill-friends]...chuck Jackson's greatest hits[1965]if you're a soul music fan then get this classic album from the great soul crooner himself[any day now-if I didn't love you-I wake up crying-any other way]and many more...it's hard to pick one isley bros album as the best[most are great]but[the heat is on-1975]is a classic...a quiet storm-smokey[1975]the master songwriter himself put together a masterful lp...the spinners-yesterday-today&tomorrow[1977]maybe their best with the mellow[I'm riding your shadow down to love]and the jamming[throwing a good love away]very nice...prisoner of love-james brown[1961]the first album from the[godfather of soul]and a good one too[try me-bewildered-lost someone-that thing in g],,,i'll return with more treasures.
