Noobie needs help on songwriting
Hey everyone, I am new to the forum (I don't know if this is the right section to post this, sorry if it isn't) and I'm trying to write songs, but the problem here is I have no clue how to do it.
I have various topics I'd like to talk about and when I try to write them down I just don't make an order, I can make some sentences very long and then some very short, they don't really rhyme and when I try to come up with a beat for the song I just can't avoid singing my lyrics in the rhythm of other songs I like. I'd like to have advice on how to actually write songs and come up with my own rhythm to sing them instead of just using rhythms of other songs. Thank you. |
Personally, I think the best way to solve this is by coming up with individual rhythms for each long and short, for example...um...make the long lines faster but not too much faster
if that makes sense. I'd give you an example but I'm afraid that my ability to compose lyrics is more based around improvisation about a subject...also my instrumental style :P If you find my explanation a little...lack luster then E-mail me "Games.for.life.e @ gmail . com" and I'll try and explain a tad better. |
Write a bunch of random phrases that make little to no sense put em in a hat, and paste them together you've got a hit.

Welcomed for what? Your arrogance and high-and-mighty nature? You can keep all that. And what do you mean, "don't blatantly rip another song off".? That's a huge part of music making. No one comes from nothing. Everyone comes from something. Everyone plays their favorite recording artist's music first before they play their own. Everyone does covers at the beginning. And then, create their own music based off of what they've learned. It's ok to come up with something totally original, but a lot of times, it's best to take something old and simply put a new spin on it. That's how new great songs and new great styles of music are created. It doesn't just appear out of nowhere, it has to come from somewhere. You're not ripping it off, you're just barrowing an old style, and giving it something new.
