How would you interpret this song?

Problems and Desires

Spoken:
"I don't need you
But when I'm with you, I feel like I'm everything I want to be
I don't need you
But when I'm with you, I feel like I'm finally seeing everything I want to see
I don't need you
But sometimes I get so scared
But when it comes to you,
I don't even hear the words they say
'Cause there's no fear, and there's no pain
I don't need you, but I want you"

I've always had a thing for oblivion
Desperate child
Holding on to the string
I guess I never had my own wings

Some say this is curiosity
Some say its pure insanity
I guess I just never had what I need

There are so many stars
In the sky
All so out of reach
So I reached out
And grabbed you
Cause you were right next to me
I stay up through the night
When I know it ain't right
To see the stars
They shine for me

And I don't need you
But I want you
You're shining
Like I diamond
You make me fearless
So let me feel it

I look in a mirror
Watch my body glisten
But my mind doesn't wanna listen
This is why I give myself to you
But there's only so much I can do

Cause there's no king
There's no queen
I have no control
Over me

And I don't need you
But I want you
You're shining
Like I diamond
You make me fearless
So let me feel it

I have the burning desire for you
There's only so much I can do
I can't help myself
I know it ain't right
But I've got to see
The stars how they shine

I don't need you
But I want you
I don't need you
But I want you

I interpret this song like it's about somebody who wants to be with somebody but realises that they do not need to be with them. Summed up here:
Quote:

I don't need you
But I want you
This person makes them somebody better.

I think it's shows that the protagonist is worried about appearing to dependant on their lover. Rather they want the relationship to be between equals who choose to be together for true love. The protagonist is unsure if this is the case however.

I interpret it as loving someone on a whim while trying to evade questioning it.

As said many times, you want the person you dont need them they are just an opportunity.

That's how i interpreted anyway, it was a nice read.. i really liked this verse:

"I've always had a thing for oblivion
Desperate child
Holding on to the string
I guess I never had my own wings"
