I don't think I'll ever be able to internally be satisfied with a vocal performance of mine, but on the other hand I kind of like how this came out. Either way that's one/two-ish tracks down, pretty excited to make a "normal" album of songs with like alternative rock kind of song structures. I think it will turn out pretty nicely

Some of my best work here seriously

I bet you hear that all the time from your wife.

If you review my new album when it's done I'll post a video of my wife roasting me

What are you using to record your vocals?

Thats what I meant. The vocals seem a bit hot (up front too much) in the mix. I'm even hearing some clipping in a few places. I was wondering if you're using a condenser mic, since those are touchy and can be difficult to get a good mix. Also, a lot of times people tend to get right up into the mic, where stepping back just a bit can soften things up. Some of the best vocals are softly sung and just brought up a bit in post production. All that aside, I like the direction it's headed.

Okay gotcha, I've never had a great ear for catching these kinds of production flaws, so I really appreciate the help. I was definitely struggling with where to sing in relation to the mic, it's a delicate balance where you can easily become either too quiet or too loud. I didn't consider either of those recordings to be "final versions" or anything yet, so this advice will help me a lot moving forward. Thanks again

Happy to help. There's a 'sweet spot' in there somewhere.

Would you say there are more problems with the first track (The Capsizer's Call) than the second? I'm having trouble hearing much of anything I have a problem with in Neon Castle, but I think I'll redo pretty much every bit of singing on the first track
