Check it out, experimental drone jazz. |
My friend Kumar and I were jammin today and we decided to record something fresh. We ended up doing these two songs, Yin and Yang. You can kind of get an idea of what we were going for, dark and light vibe.
https://soundcloud.com/jeff_shadows/yin The first one Yin, is really dark and moody track. Probably the most experimental track ive done, definitely not my usual style but we had a lot of fun with the eerie simplicity. We have tracks of random vox, bottles clanking, cymbal hits etc. Lots of trippy and creepy effects on this one. https://soundcloud.com/jeff_shadows/yang The second one Yang is more of my normal style, chill reggae even dub style sounds. My brother got on the vocals for this one too. We also throw in a few surprises on this one, think chopped and screwed :thumb: |
Well my good pal Roxy thinks this track (https://soundcloud.com/daydream-soci...n-a-bleak-room) is ass to the extent that she gave me like the only "meh" I've ever seen on plug, but I've otherwise been getting overwhelmingly positive reception to this and some people think I could make it big with this style so that's a confidence booster that I really needed after Roxy drained almost all the confidence I had left. This guy in particular really gets it:

I wasn't at all familiar with composer and classical guitarist J. Martinez and his peppy tango, so I looked him up and learned the following: "Born, raised, and trained in Uruguay, Julio Martínez Oyanguren (1901-1973) was one of the great South American classical guitarists. Like some of his contemporaries, Agustín Barrios of Paraguay and Guillermo Gomez of Spain/Mexico for example, Oyanguren played his own arrangements and guitar transcriptions of works by classical composers, as well as his own compositions. His career lasted decades (he also recorded a number of 78s for Columbia records around the same time), he toured internationally, was respected and well-known, and released many LPs. " (Quote is from the youtube video v=KaxdrH7YdPY). |

Vegangelica and Plankton, thanks a lot for your words! "Pablo" (a proper name: Pablo means Paul) was composed by José Martínez, who was an Argentinian pianist... in the 20's!! I'd suggest you guys have a go at Troilo's version of "Pablo": it's just majestic. Tango was a wondrous kind of music in Argentina and Uruguay. Agustín Barrios Mangoré was indeed a beyond amazing guitarist and a supreme composer. He was born in Paraguay, a South American country as well. There's lots of stuff by him to study. That guy was way ahead of his time!

(Wikipedia) "José Martínez [born January 28, 1890 in Buenos Aires, died July 27, 1939, called "El Gallego" ( The Spaniard )] was an Argentine musician (guitarist, pianist), band leader and composer of Tango Argentino. José Martínez was one of the great pianists in the early days of the emergence of the classical tango orchestra. In his compositions he played an important role in the development of Tango Argentino as a new art form." |
