How To Make Your Lead Guitar Solos Sound Awesome - YouTube

I thought It was a very interesting way to think about the topic. At first I thought it was a pretty simple idea, just learn your key notes.

I think my guitar being out of tune had something to do with it, but when I tried this I found it wasn't so simple. I couldn't really make any single note sound very good, not as good as they did in this video. I guess I have some work to do.

What do you guys think of this? And you, plank?
Just saw this. Have to check it out when I get a chance, and let you know my thoughts Blast.

Not too bad Blast. I liked the phaser effect, and you're choice of notes was cool. Would've liked to hear you moving around the fret board a bit more though. Nice work.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm looking to be critiqued. I guess I was sticking around frets 8-15 most of the time, mainly on the bottom three strings.

That reminds me, I was going to ask you, when you're soloing do you usually stick to the bottom three strings? A lot of guitarists seem to do that. How often do you see someone playing the majority of their solo on the first 5 to 7 frets on the top 3 strings? Not often.

Off the top of my head w/o really getting into it, it boils down to what the song needs. Most of the time it's the bluesy/country -ish tunes that use the the frets you mention (5-7 frets) as one can get more of a twang that lends well to the style. Also, when a tune is in G or F and even A, I'll use the standard blues box pattern on lower register that can also be translated to the octave (12 frets up), and/or modify the pattern to fit a minor chord progression if it suits the song.

Just to clarify, I've never studied theory, nor have I ever had any formal training, so I just play by ear and what I think sounds good to me. Someone with a better understanding of how it all fits together could eleborate quite a bit more on it.

That makes pretty good sense. I've been messing around with it a little more and not many of those low, fat notes really work too well, unless I'm playing the chord tones along with rhythm guitar. I didn't really put any time into it, I was just ****in around. I think it needs more patience and better phrasing. My phrasing is something that I really need to work on

I would say more vibrato on the end notes your holding but it sounded pretty cool.

Well I'm getting no sustain. I think it may be my guitar cord. I can't hold a note for very long without it just cutting off.

Quality gear can also go a long way AS you are playing. Knowing that your gear is going to accurately express what it is you're trying to convey really helps.

Try changing strings first.

In all, it's a pretty good lesson. But to me, there is a fine line between teaching, and imposing your will upon an unsuspecting star struck kid that couldn't play a note to save his Mom's life because he's about to **** himslef with fear.

lol

Actually, it's a good disciplined approach. He DID use his trem, doubledpicked a note that was supposed to one, and planked a string at one point though. He shoulda just let that kid fly... but that would have killed the lesson.

I know, I'm nit picking. lol For me, it's all about experimentation, and I've done the One Note thing, as well as the Two Note thing, just out of necessity. Have one guitar next to me, and pluck out a G, and play the one in my lap. For hours.
