Songwriting book?
Hey everyone!
I'm new to the forum, and new to songwriting. Been kinda dabbling on my own - and although I know I can search the web for days looking up information, I was wondering if anyone out there knows of any great books on songwriting that would help me get to a more pro level. I'll keep an eye out through my research and if I come across anything worth reading I'll let you all know too! Thanks, and looking forward to your recommendations! |

RE: Book on songwriting - my recommendation
Was searching for a "how-to" songwriting book. Found one reviewed and recommended everywhere, so I bought and read it. Twice. "How To Be A Hit Songwriter". Four stars. (do they have that for books?) |

Find books on music theory. They can help you out a lot.
It's also helpful, though maybe not fully necessary, to take a music theory class. Aural dictation (the practice of listening to music, then writing down what you hear based on relative pitch) is a very handy skill that you can't really learn out of a book. It helps you translate what you "hear" in your head into actual instrumentation. |
