Post "Mine" Cover Lyrics

Here's something I thought of when I heard Adam Young's cover of Taylor Swift's song, "Enchanted". I have no idea why or how this came into my mind, but here it is, hope you like it

(1) I was in college, workin part time, waitin tables,
Left a small town, never looked back;
You were a flight risk, with a fear of fallin,
Both wonderin why we bother with love, if it never lasts;
You said, “Can you believe it?”
As we’re lyin on the couch,
The moment, I could see it,
Yes, yes, I can see it now

(C) Do you remember, we were sittin there, by the water,
I put my arm around you, for the first time;
You made a rebel of the son of a careless father,
You are the best thing, that’s ever been mine

(2) Flash forward, and we’re takin on the world together’
And there’s a drawer of your things at my place;
I learned your secrets and I figured out why you’re guarded’
I promised we won’t make our parents’ mistakes;
We got bills to pay,
We got nothing figured out,
When it was hard to take,
Yes, yes,
This is what I thought about

(C) + Do you remember all the city lights on the water,
I saw you start to believe for the first time
I made a rebel of a careless man’s careful daughter,
You are the best thing that’s ever been mine

(3) And I remember that fight, 2:30 AM,
Yeah, everything was slippin right out of our hands;
You ran out cryin, and I followed you out into the street;
Braced ourselves for the goodbyes,
Cause that’s all we’d ever known;
But I looked you in the eyes,
And said I’ll never leave you alone..
Because..
I remember how we felt, sittin by the water,
And every time I look at you, it’s like the first time;
I fell in love with a careless man’s careful daughter,
She is the best thing that’s ever been mine..

That's a sweet love song, lyricsdude.

I like the hopefulness of the lyrics: people who grew up without examples of loving relationships can still create one together.

I like how you modify the lyrics to describe first the man then the woman in approximately symmetrical verses. I also like your use of words that have rhyming vowel sounds, such as "time/mine" and "place/mistakes."

I feel the line, "I learned your secrets and I figured out why you're guarded," is a little clunky with too many syllables. Have you considered eliminating some to say, "I learned your secrets and why you're guarded?"

The word "guarded" is also slightly problematic, I feel, because it has two meanings: "guarded" as in reserved and protective of your emotions (which is what you meant), and "guarded" as in guarded by jailors. If you described her as having "her guard up" then that would be more precise.

My favorite lines are these:

Quote:
I saw you start to believe for the first time.
I made a rebel of a careless man’s careful daughter.

Braced ourselves for the goodbyes,
Cause that’s all we’d ever known.

I remember how we felt, sittin by the water,
And every time I look at you, it’s like the first time;
I fell in love with a careless man’s careful daughter,
She is the best thing that’s ever been mine.
The end definitely gives the feeling of one person treasuring another.

It's a cover of someone else's song. It's like the switched version of Taylor Swift's song "Mine", and it's like the guy's perspective of the original song.

Oh! Hee hee! I get it now. You just switched the pronouns compared to the original: http://www.metrolyrics.com/mine-lyri...lor-swift.html

I don't mean to be a buzzkill but are the lyrics in this different from the original at all?

The pronouns are different, Tumor. The pronouns. That's a tiny difference! But it is a difference.

Tumor:
Dude. Have you heard Adam Young/Owl City's version of "Enchanted" by Taylor Swift? It's not much different from the original, only switching some of the pronouns, and it's supposed to be that way. That's the previous example I was going off of. And I'm pretty sure that Mr. Young's version of that song was pretty widely accepted as awesome. Sorry you don't enjoy the idea.
