When I perform for open mic nights, I don't get constructive criticism so I feel like the applause I receive it's just like they are blowing smoke up my bum. Even when I recite poems that I KNOW are weaker so that I can get some type of feedback on things I should work on. I still get the friendly applause.

Yeah I get what you mean, I will have to find some better substitutes for "you"....maybe clue? hue? boo? too? crew? mew? is mew even a word? lol I know its the name of a pokemon and a band.

Maybe now *you've* inspired *me* to write a poem using many unrelated metaphors to see how that goes!
I value you, your opinion and I feel like it has helped me greatly and now I know what to work on. I even value , Sugar's opinion also even though she's upset with me these days for some odd reason but w/e.

I'm the meaning in your life
I'm the inspiration
I bring feeling to your life
I'm the inspiration

hehe I was just listening to that song not too long ago.

You could always ask your relatives for their feedback, which I've found is usually pretty interesting! Mine blow no smoke up my ass. My dad's first word in response to a song I played for him was, "Abominable." Heh heh.

I feel getting the honest feedback from a stranger (such as at MB) rather than a relative's feedback or just bland clapping from an audience has definitely been beneficial to me, too. Sometimes people too close to you can't give feedback divorced from all their impressions and feelings about you. And an audience member is unlikely to step forward and offer constructive criticism, as you've found out. (I've never been to an open mic night, so I'm curious what it is like. Thanks for telling me.)

Mew *is* a word! "I feel completely mew"--I'm not sure what it means, but I'm sure I've felt mewish before. And yes, Mew is a pokemon, a cute one. I didn't know Mew is a band! Go with "mew" in that song.

Likewise, dj. Getting unexpected inspiration from someone is a nice gift to ourselves from ourselves, in a way (since sometimes people don't *mean* to be so inspiring, but they are because of how we react.

"I bring feeling to your life"--a nice line, that one. I assume this is Chicago's "You're the inspiration." That's a nice song.

Sugar's upset? Well, I hope she'll tell you and you can both figure out what's wrong.

I like your sig, by the way! It's so true, dj.

Whenever my cousin writes a song, he always comes to me to get my opinion because he knows that I try my hardest to pick it apart and find something wrong because I like to give positive feedback that's also constructive and like you said not lead him on with smoke up his ass.

lol yes I was using Chicago's song. but I switched it around to fit my joke.

I'm down to talk it out with Sugar and find out what's wrong but i'm not sure if she's ready to have a talk with me or if she ever even wants to again. I'm not sure what I did but whatever it is I'd like to work it out with her.

ty for the sig compliment. I got it from kanye west's twitter page lol. I know it's an old adage though but I loved it so I had to use it.
