SATCHMO Writes Sometimes
In a former existence, I was a bard, a teller of tales, a public stroller extolling the virtues of higher ideals in colorful tights and pantaloons, and now, I think it is time that I thoughtfully and thoroughly expose you to that softer more expressive side of myself.
Some, like this one, are performance pieces iv'e done, others are just jotted little trinkets, and others are just, well, other. I'll add to it at my leisure or as your gratuitous awe and admiration merits. Enjoy. Love Story
we were... Artist and Arsonists we soaked our catharsis in kerosene and arsenic Rags for Molotov cocktails set sail into gated communities and corporate prisons we were... Artists and Arsonists Artists and Arsonists We got high on second-hand fermeldehyde and screw-top wine Baptized in the sun dried cesspool it was too much to stay alive sometimes We were dyin’ we were... Artists and Arsonists Artists and Arsonists We dropped BOMBS on the Pyramids of Giza! We dropped BOMBS on the surface of the sun! We dropped BOMBS on the White House lawn! We torched the stoic roadhouse and skipped town by dawn! We were... Artists and Arsonists Artists and Arsonists And we didn’t genuflect to NOBODY! ....We were in love. |

No... You're actually right. it's unintentionally mispelled. I can't believe that I never caught it.
It wouldn't make for a good song and I don't think I'd want to throw a beat over it or turn it into one. Performed it clocks it at just over a minute. When I originally performed it I brought my marginally schizophrenic friend Aaron with me and I'll never forget walking off the stage and him coming up to me and saying, "Man, it was like you was cornered by the cops up there and you was ready to fight every single one of em' till you found that pocket to make your getaway". I think his words really do a lot of justice to the poems tone and dynamic. |

This was performed 2 years ago in Portland, ME. The whole performance was basically me trying not to lose it, but it was well received.
Ariel Rrarr Rrarr!!!! That was your first decree to me And I crouched holding you...gently These two hands, severed the cord, and the painted hardwoods beneath my curled toes turned to dust. Ariel With galaxies twirling in my eyes I held you up to an adoring sky, and whispered, “Behold the only thing greater than yourself.” Ariel My Lioness of Judah I confess to you what my words won’t yet allow... Ariel This world is yours, baby girl The world is yours. Rrarrr Rrarrr!!!! And your love will be a beacon and they will come to you in tattered rags and battered boats and settle on your shores. Rrarr Rrarr!!!! Simone, and they will listen Your truth, your light will glisten like dewdrops on a lotus like diamond in the sun. Rrarr Rrarr!!!! And the loudspeakers will fall from the minarets And they will see your silhouette dancing before the daybreak And raising up your voice... Rrarr Rrarr!!!! And my world was no longer mine And our journey was just beginning I held you to my chest Counted all my blessings, and My ears could hear the adhān... There is none greater... There is none greater... there is none greater... Ariel The world is yours. |
