I was wondering which is better, or which is the right way or which do you prefer - Set up the chord progression first then the tune or melody OR Set up the tune first then figure out the chords for the tune ?
thank you in advance. ![]() |

There is no right or wrong way. Write whichever way gets you the best results.
I'm a chord progression guy myself. I'm all about weird chords to set the tone, so I mess around until I find something I like, then let the rest fall into place.

ironically i'm the opposite of you. i like getting a melody in my head first then contemplating different ways to approach it before trying to find ways to apply it to my instrument. i find visualizing how to play what i'm hearing helps me actually do it. |
