Aveneficus' Poetry Collection
Going to start keeping everything together as many posters have done. Seems to be a good idea, if only for organization. I'll start with something I wrote today.
---------- Are you lonely? Isolated on a single, red brick. Your comrades compact - stacked together at what seems to be a faraway distance. Can you flee your island? You are paralyzed. A flame does not empower a drag. Desensitized - filtered. To be left alone eternally; To soak up rainwater - To dry up in this sun. Rinse - Repeat. Rinse - Repeat. For this is the life of a lonely cigarette.

Dirt clothes the floor -
dust erupts beneath naked feet building colonies in wrinkled valleys. Light, reflective - mirrored, mimicing and blinding; disguised by clouded corneas. Disease, infiltration - collapse: of our Lungs, of our Buildings, of our roles as Drones. And a Chair, to rest - to forget the hatred bred in our gardens; and dreams that we have killed.

A black dress - and one, single blonde curl.
Blue eyes - and a pair of lips I wish only to kiss. Porcelain skin - and three diamonds around her neck. Countless - the times I've tried to win her heart. Thrice - she has said sarcastically accepted, and Twice - she said no, but with a sly smile. But one time - she asked me a question, And I knew I would not have to answer.

I do not like the second, but the first one is rather interesting. I like the brick metaphor. For the third, read it to a friend or two to make sure that it sounds right to you. When you read it to someone, you quickly become a very accute critic of yourself.

You are but a distant memory to me now,
A ghost of the ghost I've left to rest. I can hardly recall the moonlight reflections From green eyes and an off-white smile. And I can still faintly hear you cursing my name, I cannot remember what I'd done wrong - No, not this time. Fabrications and mistakes - Easily remedied, but never repaired. Anger, ire and destructive desires came easier to you. And sweet talk always came easily to me, With only a few twists of my tongue - A beautiful girl becomes a goddess, A lowly tramp - a noble king's daughter. But you've said it many times yourself And now I could not agree more: What's left? Underneath a gleaming exterior? I learned to love from you. From the hate you bred in me. I remember thirty minute drives And watching paychecks evaporate in my gas tank, Singing songs that I made you sing too. Sometimes screaming to myself "why bother?" Then thinking. . . "am i crazy too?" You never knew how many times I lost myself. I should have told you. I should have pulled over to breathe, But instead I pressed the pedal harder. And I would get there faster, Not wanting to get there at all. But I'm glad that I did. If not for your embrace, To learn. I had so much to learn.
