HELP!!!! I have copywriting questions!!!!
I have written a song but used the chorus from a different song, will i run into trouble when i try to copywrite? What do I need to do?? PLEASE HELP!!!

easy answer....write a new chorus. yes of course you're going to run into copywrite issues, you are using someone elses work.

dude, Lennon got sued for the line at the beginning of "Come Together". The two lines in comparison only resembled each other. It was one line, and Lennon was out a couple thousand bucks. It's not cool to copyright--and especially considering that the chorus is the 'hub' of the song. You do not copy lyrics--especially choruses.

you could 'sample' it and find out how much it costs to obtain the rights to legally use that chorus. although it would be a lot cheaper to follow everyone else's advice and re-write your own chorus.
then again if you had to seriously ask this question (and chose to get an answer from a public web forum) i don't think you're really in a position that truly needs to copyright its material (ready for public release). |
