Good songwriting dosent aways have to require really good lyics...Some bands focus more on the rhythm and melody...Just listen to some old 50s Rock N Roll, great tunes, some awfuly silly(sometimes downright apalling)lyrics, just look at some of the lyrics to jailhouse rock.

"Number forty-seven said to number three:
"You're the cutest jailbird I ever did see.
I sure would be delighted with your company,
come on and do the Jailhouse Rock with me."
Let's rock, everybody, let's rock.
Everybody in the whole cell block
was dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock.

The sad sack was a sittin' on a block of stone
way over in the corner weepin' all alone.
The warden said, "Hey, buddy, don't you be no square.
If you can't find a partner use a wooden chair."
Let's rock, everybody, let's rock.
Everybody in the whole cell block
was dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock."

Ah, a great song about man to man prison sex.

Well, at least it was original (for its day anyway). I've been getting really sick of the old, played out ideas that seem to be pervading the media these days. Weather its music, movies, or games, everything seems to just be remakes of something else. Saliva's music isan't even that good (IMO) and is just so generic (both lyricly and musicly). But I don't want this to turn into a band bashing thread. If people like them, thats cool. I'm sure they find something appealing in their music. I just happen not to. I'm sure there are bands that I listen to that are the same way to others, and thats just how life is. No biggie...

I guess, but i do like them for how they incorperate southern rock and classic hard rock into their music, they are a little old fassioned i agree, but thats their choice, i guess im a little biased because they happen to come from where i live, not many tennessee bands make it big...It also pisses me off when people call them a Post Grunge band, i don't hear the grunge in there at all, except maybe some Soundgarden and AIC influence.

Now boo boo, I don't see what you mean by suggesting that Jailhouse Rock had silly lyrics. In its elucidation of the joys of prison-buggery it dealt with one of the important but previously overlooked issues of the day (incidentally its something which I feel that Gansta rappers, who have knocked up a fair amount of prison time between them, have been unfortunately reticent to rap about).

My own personal hated lyric is from mid-way through "Don't Funk With My Heart" by Black Eyed Peas there's some rap by the guy who looks like a long haired, walking skeleton:

"Baby girl you make me feel
You know you make me feel so real
I love you more than sex appeal
Cos you're that tha that tha that that that girl..."

And so on, ad irritatum. Its made even worse by the fact that the music really quietens down at this point so that you can feel the full girth of the his lyrical dexterity. I don't know what the rest of the songs is about, as when I've heard this on the radio they seem to have made this the pivotal point of the song and I can't bring myself to listen to the rest of it.
