I don't know about that, if I was to compare Fred Durst to the Pre-Raphealites i'd fail that paper.

I was pretty sure it was common knowledge that lyrics are a form of poetry. I guess not. Just because Fred Durst sucks at writing lyrics, doesn't mean they aren't poetry. They just aren't good poems.

I don't know man, I go to poetry readings more than I should, theres a high level of form in poetry, lyrics are just going in lock step with a melody and syllabic spacing.

Yes, infact I thought we were already allowed to post poems here 'cause I myself have been as have a few others and to quote the dictionary on the lyrics thing. "Of or relating to a category of poetry that expresses subjective thoughts and feelings, often in a songlike style or form. "

Didn't we already have poetry posted? Unless we have a slew of progressive musicians here - most of the stuff that is posted would be better off as poetry than lyrics... my stuff included.

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with putting poetry up here alongside lyrics. For me, I'm definitely here to write lyrics, not poetry (Bill will now kill me for saying that!) but still find the presence of poems useful to push the lyric writing forward.

Poetry = ideas to steal for lyrics
