Songs without refrains seem kind of unfinished to me

well.. you could have like a riff that repeats every now and then and that could be your chorus... all songs have that. almost all of them, anyway.. the words can change all the time, but there's that sound that keeps repeating

In stairway the "and it makes me wonder" kind of constitutes a refrain and Rhapsody gets by because right the way through its such an amazing song. But yeah, if you cant think of a refrain then generally your screwed

The best approach is probably to get a few basic ideas together and them play them each to a few friends. The refrain tune which has your audience jumping off their seats is the one that you want to use! |
