'tis the season far from hell
time to chill; time to gell
fill my shoes with geritol
wash it down with alcohol

where were you when we were us?
you're beautiful and dangerous
you are like a setting sun
get too close and you get burned

pleasantries wear thick and thin
wander out and wander in
lichens grow under your skin
your vegetable is all within

will you please please remove your hat?
bow your head and wait for that
thing you didn't really trust
The beautiful and dangerous pills are always black and red--take just one and you are dead
there is not an antidote
there is not a shred of hope
the beautiful and dangerous
things you said before you broke
everything that was my life
time to tease; time to grin
time to laugh at everything
time to take your ecstasy
time to find your deep meaning

all your friends are misconstrued
all of them are just like you
"things you didn't mean to say"
hell you say them anyway; all your friends are so upset
they have brought their tourniquets
they have brought their silver spoons
but they will all be leaving soon
when it is the midnight hour
i will use my special powers
a little game of show and tell...

thanks - actually you have great rhythm and meter in your verses + you have a visceral and caustic style in the vein of the beats as we have celebrated indeed -

in fact in re-reading A Sunday In Winter.... I had the spoken-word vision of a TS Eliot "Lovesong OF J Alfred Prufrock" type of thing --

even better....what type of reading voice do you have? later on i have plans for MRI to record music to spoken word performance pieces...some of your stuff would be great i think. of course you would be credited and would get any royalties so it's something to think about for the future. Maybe you have other works we could look at. that would be awesome to get a voice recording from you. i am sure i could do something artistic with it in a song somewhere. if you notice in songs like Controlled Erotic Chaos I am venturing into the spoken-word experimental genre with the German Klang muss frei sein { Sound must be free } and the infomercial lady talking about not being responsible for damage to your hearing etc... ;p also there is the lesbian love scene at the end & we have a version that we're sending to David Lynch where you can hear what's going on a little more LOL . Anyway...you see how I am not just interested in MRI being a traditional band with traditional vocals all the time i want to push the envelope. btw is your avatar a still from I'm Not Here the Dylan-tribute flick w/ Cate Blanchett?

Here is the Mix Radio channel with some feedback already. If we ever use one of your recordings we can include it in the bio here as there are a lot of listeners; the indie movement is really taking hold in all aspects of new web 2.0 society fertilizer

Some of this makes me scratch my head and think "What?" Most of it is amazing..and some of it is VERY forced, or you couldn't think of something better to say becasue it HAD to rhyme.

Hey, not all of it has to rhyme. But where to rhyme and not to rhyme needs to be measured out equally. Rhyme every other line to make it easier on yourself, or only rhyme the 2nd and 4th lines and so on.

I know not everyone in here is writing lyrics, maybe only some stanzas need rhyming, preferably the ones that have the MOST impact.

What?

This is prob my favorite part of all of it:
"there is not an antidote

the beautiful and dangerous

It is my favorite part because you said what you wanted to say without having to carefully choose the words so they rhymed. To me that part is the most effective and most natural part of the whole thing. Even though it starts with the same two words in the last 4 lines.

hey i got yelled at before for trying to 'explain' songs -- and i felt dumb being kinda new here doing so --

but the vegetable/lichens reference is to a person who wore many different 'skins' but deep down they were incapable of true empathy like a vegetable or rock etc... the image of lichens clinging to rocks but like right below the epidermis....that is why all the surgery/Xray footage in song video etc...

I didn't watch the video. I only read imagery and discription of pills and heroin...as the reader, I have the right to interpret as I understand it.

I see nothing wrong with exlaining songs, especailly since everything is open to interpretation the minute you "publish" it.

yeah I'm new here too, but not new to lyric writing...I have written them for (making myself sound old) 13 years. (ok fine I am that old)
