Untitled
Still far ahead the light still glows;
Its power shines and brings me woes Of an ancient time When men were good, And maidens fair, But now long since passed When evil there, That God himself Shone on the frame Of Abraham's light and love And stars that shine far, far above. "My heart grows weary Of those that sound And bring their malice To hallowed ground." Can they not see? Can they not hear? They bring the devil me And me his ear! They bid me speak, To drive him down And drive him back Below the ground And punish him still, "For that is what thy Lord did will." I wish and hope and dream today That evil had not come my way, And I been born an elven prince, Or surer still, a dying saint, So that I could pass beyond these lands Without fear, want, or taint, But that is not my fate today. I was not chosen to go that way. Now I know what lies ahead The road it darns my weary feet, And brings upon me sickness And death, should I meet. Still I cannot go back down Where the devil lies, below the ground. He bids me rise into the sky Where I gain more light than try, And follow Him, whenever I can To bring the light back to my land.
