December, My Violet

This road is dead,
I'm afraid we'll have to find another way
Around jagged peaks, the pointed staircases
That shadow this whole town.

I have weighed my pack,
And I think we've just enough supplies
To reach the churchyard,
A shallow grave
Where my body lies.

So we knelt there, two shadows filtered by ash.
These winter chimnys can make the soul cold.
For a moment I almost saw your face,
Flickering like the candles of past.

We once held hands,
And I think we've just remembered
A frozen river,
I carried you, alive
To the bed where your eyes closed for the last time.

Lock the hands of a painter, with the hands of a ghost,
And the essence will scar every wall.
It's a heavy wind tonight,
It's a heavy wind all night.
