We have a monsoon... but no wedding
EDIT: Song's up at www.myspace.com/jodileeparker
Meeting your parents I'm scared as hell My feet point to the door Do you think they can tell? Your mum's questions Beat me down Your dad's face A permanent frown You said try To make this work I tried To make it work I tried To no avail I failed Now please don't leave me alone In that room Hung out to dry In a monsoon Don't leave me alone In that room Hung out to dry In a monsoon Your mum and dad Are clairvoyance Given time You'll become the same annoyance Foreboding, foreboding It doesn't pass me You inherited your genes From these two nazis? You said try To make this work I tried To make it work I tried It's not for me One more over-sugared tea... And I'll leave you alone In that room Hung out to dry In a monsoon Leave you alone In that room Hung out to dry In a monsoon

It sounds as if it could be a catchy song.
I don't get what you mean with her parents being clairvoyance though. Wiki said the following: ''Clairvoyance from late 17th century French [clair (clear) & voyant (seeing)] - is a form of extra-sensory perception wherein a person acquires psychic knowledge primarily by visual means. A clairvoyant may perceive distant objects, persons, or events, including viewing targets hidden behind opaque objects. Clairvoyants may also perceive types of energy not normally perceptible to humans, such as discarnate spirits and auras.'' But I reckon that's not what you meant?

^Clairvoyance = "Alleged faculty of being able to see objects, events, and persons that are not visible by ordinary means and may even be distant in time or place."
What I meant by them being "a clairvoyance", is that meeting somebody's parents can be a kind of fortune-telling experience, in that you can see how they will might turn out by looking at their parents. As that needs explaining, then it might be a good idea for me to change it? Or do you think it would be good to leave it in, as the word won't easily be misheard so people can puzzle over it? |

I think it was just my lack of Englisch vocabulary that confused me.
It's good to have some mystery in a song, as soon as people think it over, it will stick better too. And if they know the meaning of the word, they will get what you meant out of the context.

I've put the music up on our myspace now
www.myspace.com/jodileeparker It might have got delayed in the music stream again, so if it's not there yet just go and look later. It SHOULD appear there in the next 24 hours at least. Now I'm going to eat some cheese on toast, then go to the lab, set an experiment running and go to the gym. |
