We Came Here To Colonise
HEAR IT AT
WWW.MYSPACE.COM/PIZZALOVESEVERYBODY We sail, 100 men of desperate mind We hope from sea to land we'll be delivered My prayers, once peaceful in my head This last week have been coming as a fever This is not for glory This is not for fame We came from the depths of poverty Hoping life would change This is not for ego Nor for vanity A proud man would not place himself At the mercy of the sea So many miles So many miles To this cage-like boat Unreconciled I'm feeling sick And barely sane We came this far With just one aim We came here To colonise We see this land Through hungry eyes We will take What we can take Now our ethics and god Are far away So far away Finally we meet ground I touch the rocky soil and say This land belongs to me, I will accept no other owner To keep it, I will do whatever it takes For I have never owned My own patch of earth And now I've earnt the privelige And I know it was worth Every second of the journey Every storm we had to meet I left my home with nothing Now I've a fortune at my feet So many miles So many miles And now we're free Of rank and file Such freedom We have never known In mapless lands We make our homes We came here To colonise We see this land Through hungry eyes We will take What we can take Now our ethics and god Are far away So far away I staked my claim over land that was not mine And prayed this act of theft, would be forgiven over time I staked my claim over land that was not mine And prayed this act of theft, would be forgiven over time We quote the past with sense of shame Expansionist villains sully a nations name But all of histories evils have brought us to today Misdemanours of the past have put food upon your plate So many years So many years Now disease and hunger Are distant fears And our forebears Easily disowned We don't acknowledge What we owe To renounces their evils We would be hypocrites While we are cradled By the benefits When you grip that mobile In that righteous fist Remind yourself "It was exploitation paid for this"

Buuuuump.
Read the song, kill the song, shred it and put it in a sandwich. I don't care what you do with it, but we do put them here for some kind of critique, you know. Be bastards if you want. Slate me like a Roman roof. ANY input. Its all good. |

The lyrics are good, however, without hearing the music to it it seems as though there are too many verses, that unless you change the sound the many of the verses that it would start to get repetitive. But I do like the lyrics, when I was reading the first part of it I was reminded of something Thursday would write.

I listened to some Thursday on the net on the net and certainly didn't hate it. Some was screaming which I didn't especially enjoy but they seemed to play it very well, and the bits where they weren't screaming were very good.
And, yeah I do try to tell a story in my lyrics if I can and if I think it helps get the point across. Probably I'll remove the last verse and chorus from it for recording and will only put in the last verse and chorus occasionally when playing live if it works in the setup (i.e. if I have my synth it could break down to just synth and vocals at the end and have a slightly altered vocal melody etc.) That's be enjoyable to do, because the song is complete with just two verses and two choruses and means something different with the extra verse and chorus added. So maybe it'll **** with people's perception of the message of the song. |

As for the not liking most of your recommendations thing... its true. I've listen to the majority of the bands you've suggested on here and most of them I just can't get my head around. Not for want of trying. |
