forum n00b

i'm new to the forum, but thought i'd ask people their opinion on lyrics. I'm totally cryptic alot of the time...and pretty depersonalized. I don't use 'me' and 'I' alot. I mean, its stems from my philosophy on lyrics, that if something's tangible and easily said, there's no point in writing a song about it (for me anyhow), but they can be kind of unintelligible. If you know what they're about I've been told they're good, but then I keep thinking 'if your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt'...maybe they don't speak for themselves.

I was wondering if there are any people who have a similar lyrical style, and how they cope with keeping their lyrics 'grounded' and intelligible without them becoming contrived and cliche?

Sorry, I accidently started two threads. I'm a total moron!

I like my music to be personal so I prefer using "I" and "me" in songs. It makes it seem more real somehow!

none of you people can write songs. i dont like people with egos. assume they can write songs. look up long words in the dictionary to make themselves sound smart. everyones so grossly friendly. ugh.

Crazy Luv 04-14-2006 02:54 AM

what does your name mean, skiesofganymede? j/w

skiesofganymede 04-18-2006 09:09 PM

Um, was that directed at me ledzeplinrulz??? Oh well, if it was, fair enough. I totally agree with your comments and I'm constantly plagued with thoughts that it applies to me more than anyone. *puts away dictionary*, so thanks for the heads up on at least one lyrical faux pas.

And crazy luv, the name comes from a quote from cowboy bebop (manga), "a woman's heart is as fickle as the skies of ganymede" - Jet Black. Okay, so I'm female, and something tells me I should take offense to that, but Jet's a cool character, and its a good ol' quote, me thinks!

And wow, appart from that, nobody's any help! but thanks for trying, or at least giving the post a passing glance and ignoring it. :D

I've noticed you've made alot of negative comments on this forum towards songwriters and yet you still don't post your own lyrics. Which is extremely stupid I think, you bitch about certain people calling themselves writers and treat it like its some title that makes you special and you can only be a writer if you're this good. Quit being so eltist about the term if you don't even post your own lyrics to be judge.

yeah ***nameade whatever post one of your songs, we'll asses it and then tell you how to improve your songs. but apparently we cant write songs so you may as well just ignore us anyway.

TrampInaTux 04-19-2006 03:25 AM

If you write songs, then you are a songwriter. How talented you are at it is a totally different matter. Galymede (I think I got that right) post a song on here and let some REAL (:) ) songwriters judge it.

shatteredheartfallendream 04-19-2006 01:26 PM

there's nothing wrong with the way you write your poetry. (note: Keyword: YOUR) If you like it, it really doesn't matter. :)

skiesofganymede 04-19-2006 05:38 PM

Haha, I never like my songs. But I have degrees of being okay with them. :)

littleknowitall 04-19-2006 06:09 PM

i liked it, and im not lying, this is the first time i've bothered posting in this section because a) unless i really genuiely think something is good i won't bother posting.
b) (and there is no offense intended with this) i haven't seen much else i've really liked on this thing, i'll admit i haven't made much of an effort to look but still.

so be happy, your lyrics are much appreciated by somebody (namely me).

skiesofganymede 04-19-2006 06:12 PM

hey thanks man :)

littleknowitall 04-19-2006 06:13 PM

s'alright:)

TrampInaTux 04-20-2006 02:26 AM

I'm suprised. Most people start off bad songwriters on here then gradually become better and better as they receive more advice. But you've started off good. Now I'll admit that this isn't my preferred style of writing to review but I'll review it through the eyes of someone who would like this thing-it's very passionate, good imagery and nice use of words. Overall, good.

i dont have any lyrics, i dont have the self esteem to write anything. but that doesnt mean i cant have an opinion about people's "songs". im just a negative person, i have nothing against you, i just feel threatened by people who like themselves. i cant help it. im sorry if im offending anyone.
