That's a great track, Plankton. A short, smooth intro and some great guitar playing as the song develops. I don't hear anything of "Your Gold Teeth", but, yeah, "Lemon Merengue" could be a bonus track, an outtake from Countdown To Ecstacy, recorded on a day when the vocalists didn't show up for work.

EDIT: just loving the guitar tone on your track, "As A Child". A really nice run of notes at about 3:30 secs, which I'd describe as "cascading". Beautiful!

Thank you, and so happy you're enjoying. That was an Ibanez Roadstar I bought off of my brother for $30, then traded for a synth that I never picked up nor used. lol

A lot of that old stuff is lacking in any bass and the drums were just simple straight forward no-frills programmed tracks with added accents during post edit. I believe they were taken from my old Zoom pedal that had a drum machine built in. I was building up my production skills with what little I had to work with. Minimalist stuff.

The flow of the rhythm in that Limon Merengue tune barely hints at YGT, and it's hard to pick out, but it's there. I can see how it'd be hard to pin point it though.

Yes, there's touch of Steely Dan in that song, DriveYourCar. Continuing on the theme of slightly related material, Dan guitarist Larry Carlton has a couple of good instrumental albums:
No Substitutions, with Steve Lukather
Larry And Lee, with Lee Ritenour

Here's a taste of the kind of music you might find. This particular song sounds to me like Steely Dan meets The Crusaders:-

Room 335 has always been a guitar staple for any discerning player. I had this issue and learned it from the tabs many, many, maaaany moons/ions/millennia ago:

Clearly a cool dude's magazine!! I didn't know that Room 335 had like a special status among guitar players. The track I return to on No Substitutions is the 14-min workout of All Blues, written originally by Miles Davis.

Also many moons/millenia ago I had to do a prelim design of an ammo depot for a projected military town in S Arabia. What I learned from that exercise: (i) don't put the ammo depot next to the kids' school, (ii) dig a big hole and throw up the excavation material as an earthwork all around so that any blast is deflected upwards (iii) have a staggered or dog-leg approach road for similar reasons.

I wonder if your US Army depot followed those guiding principles? In fact, perhaps you managed to get some maps? Blueprints? I bet we could sell them online for quite a lot.

GFTPM and Guitar Player rags were like gospel to me back then. I'm not too sure about the cool factor though.

PSP 3J is/was an ammo depot in a crater of a mountain. I'm not sure if it was volcanic at any time, but you had to drive up a mountain to get there. The bunkers were huge concrete structures covered with earth and foliage and there were hundreds of them. We'd take the HD forklifts and have races over the rows of them when we could get away with it. I'd also take my breaks out in the woods up in a deer stand listening to Steely.

Thats about as much as I know/remember about it. lol It's been over 30 years.
