It's a stupid question, but what is the song "Black Dog' about? What does it mean?

It doesn't mean anything, its about sex

^ I think its about more than just sex. If your just look at the first verse, then yeah it is all about sex, but look at these lines:

Didn't take too long 'fore I found out
What people mean my down and out.
Spent my money, took my car,
Started tellin' her friends she wants to be a star.
I don't know but I been told
A big legged woman ain't got no soul.
Ah yeah, ah yeah, ah, ah, ah.
Ah yeah, ah yeah, ah, ah, ah.

All I ask for when I pray,
Steady rollin' woman gonna come my way.
Need a woman gonna hold my hand
And tell me no lies, make me a happy man.

those lase lines add a lot more meaning to the song. now it seems as though the lyrics are about more than just sex, it's about a guy realizing that he needs more than just sex in a relationship, after one too many one-night-stands, he realizes that they're just empty and meaningless, and he's now craving something more.

the title itself is simply a reference to a freindly black dog that lived around the studio the band recorded the album in though a lot of people think its a reference to a mythical ocult beast that carried out Satans dirty work. whatever it is, its a fantastic song.

I like the one with the improvised title- Led Zeppelin IV. Stairway to Heaven is a great song.
