would have made an excellent album. Then they threw in all that other... well, not crap, but less-than-great material.
Most double albums of that era had filler and experimental self-indulgent stuff. It was the nature of a lot of double albums.

You left out Bron-Yr-Aur? That's one of the best tracks they recorded imo.

EDIT: Boogie with Stu is amazing as well.

they were unreproachable for II, IV, Houses of the Holy and about half of PG

Presence is tedious and bloated, I nascent, III all over the place and ITTOD just plain unlistenable

Led Zep III is a classic album with its mix of hard rock numbers and folky styles and as for Led Zep I, this is probably the best hard rock album ever recorded.
