Uh... I was thinking a power-ballad was more of an 80's thing. Zep never came close to that trash.

boo boo 08-06-2009 03:36 PM

Yeah, Zeppelin didn't invent the power ballad, I can't think of any of their songs being power ballads. Power ballads didn't really become a concept until the late 70s.

If you're gonna blame anyone for the power ballad, blame the record companies that invented the concept as well as AOR in general, blame bands like Journey and Styx.

Granted Zep and Who somewhat paved the way for arena rock, but it's really unfair to hold such hostility against them for it, it's not like they were concocting some evil plan to unleash bands like Foreigner on the world, if you're a very influencial band, you're gonna influence some sh*t bands as well as good ones, that's just the way it is, and if you don't think your favorite artists have influenced some serious trash themselves then you're not looking hard.

Everybody knows that power ballad = attempt at writing a Stairway to Heaven. Or maybe I'm wrong. I'm not accusing of Led Zep of making a power ballad just "inspiring" them.

Just like all of those silly little Robert Plant wannabee singer that spawned you know. I don't blame Plant for that.

I like Led Zeppelin. Atleast I did until I saw a video of their live shows. "Does anyone remember laughter?" Ughh...

someonecompletelyrandom 08-06-2009 03:51 PM

I love the live videos...

I don't know a lot of hair metal singers that really tried to imitate Plant or at least do a very good job, they were obviously influenced by him, but they didn't imitate him.

A lot of them sound more inspired by Cooper, Halford, Dickenson, Hagar, Tyler and Dio than by Plant.

Exactly.

I'm not trying to bash Zeppelin, I guess I just don't go along with big 70's rock bands. I have my reasons.

boo boo 08-06-2009 03:59 PM

So lets rememember to discredit every band that influences bands not as good as them. You know, every band ever.

Zep "insulted" a genre of music that is ALL ABOUT plagiarism, but the only reason they're at fault here is that they're not poor and black, and because they're a very popular band, obviously nobody gives a sh*t about the neverending plagiarism in metal and punk, bands who actually DO steal riffs and not just lyrics or a few guitar licks (and EVERYONE recycles guitar licks).

the difference being they knew they were doing it DECADES after the fact.

you want to turn this into an argument about class by all means do it up. we both know you won't hesitate to create straw men out of other people's post so you can fire off your well rehearsed rants in an attempt to establish superiority.

Wow, you calling me condescending, now I've heard everything.

But whatever, by not addressing my whole post I assume you agree with me that the plagiarism topic is old, useless and should die a horrible death.

irony? is that you coming from all directions.
