Wrong grammar, wrong understanding of Godwin's law.

Frownland 12-11-2017 05:34 PM

Ja, I think it's the HuffPo law that says that as an online discussion grows longer, the probability of becoming a Nazi increases greatly. Godwin's law says that as an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Hitler approaches. Big difference.

grindy 12-11-2017 05:39 PM

And someone ran it amok.

Plankton 12-11-2017 06:06 PM

And if you look at 'amok' closely, it's a spoonerism for "I am a Grammer Natzy and I amok with that".

I voted Stones. I used to probably actually like Aerosmith just as much when all I was listening to was classic rock radio, but my opinion of them has faded probably as much as any other band that I've ever listened to. I can tolerate them, and that's about the best I can say about any of their songs at this point is that they're tolerable. Sweet Emotion is an alright song, but I've heard it so many times and I've listened to so much stuff that's better in the last 8 years of my life that I just don't care too much for it.

The Rolling Stones have actually become better in my eyes (or ears?) as I've gotten older. Albums like Now, 12x5, Aftermath, Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, and even in the 70s with Sticky Fingers, Exile, Goats Head and Some Girls, they made albums that I can come back to and play all the way through again and again. Goat's Head Soup isn't my favorite but it's not a bad album by any means.

ROCKS: Easily their best.

rubber soul 12-12-2017 04:38 AM

I didn't like Goats Head Soup all that much. It's Only Rock n Roll is a much better album to me.

Agreed. Pretty much ended their amazing run of Jimmy Miller produced albums.

Texas Boy 12-12-2017 10:42 AM

12:0 votes for Stones. Are you kidding me?

I get the point that Stones are bigger rock legends, more iconic and important rock band, but if you think the 70's Aerosmith is not in the same weight class with classic-era Stones then you overrate Stones and underrate Aerosmith, plain and simple.

rubber soul 12-12-2017 10:43 AM

But you voted for the Stones too. That makes you as bad as the rest of us.

Frownland 12-12-2017 10:45 AM

Nah, if I underrated Aerosmith, they would have a negative score and that's just not practical.

Chula Vista 12-12-2017 10:50 AM

Biggest issue is that Aerosmith aped classic era Stones even more than they did Zeppelin.

Tyler and Perry pretty much wanted to be Jagger and Richards.

No classic Stones = No cool 70s Aerosmith.

I like early Aerosmith, but early Stones is just too cool. Their debut alone is better than Aerosmith's entire career.

Aerosmith Inducted Into Mediocre Unremarkable Middle-of-the-Road Bull**** Hall of Fame

That will make the OP feel better (even though he voted for the Stones :D )

Therefore, more than half of the 70s US rock bands sucked.

Can you explain me how GFR suck?

It's the Successful Backwards Principle. You take any band that was on top in their day and hate their guts. Take any band no one ever heard before and love them to death. See if you were a success like The Beatles or Led Zeppelin then you are plain horrible. You tricked a whole generation into believing your music was good and the hipsters are not going to take it any more. Grand Funk Rail Railroad or ELP were highly successful, so by decree of those who subscribe to the Successful Backwards Principle they suck. It has nothing to do with music in any objective way. It's about disregarding past opinions. Elvis was one of the greatest singers of the 20th century. No one will mention him. Take a singer who can't sing a lick and people trip over themselves saying how great he is. If you don't learn what is up is down and what is left is right you will always be confused about what direction hipsters are going.
... and that is why GFR sucks.

rubber soul 12-19-2017 07:03 AM

Actually I think GFR was okay. Their earlier material is pretty good and Closer To Home is a classic. Later on, after Locomotion (which I actually like), they got a little too bubble-gummy for want of a better word.

And I'll say it, Nea, Elvis was a damn good rocker until the movies ruined him.

Brilliant. Have this printed on a t-shirt and send it to Frowny. I'll pay the shipping charges.

Hell, I'll pay for the shirt too.

Frownland 12-19-2017 12:19 PM

If you think that I don't like Zeppelin or The Beatles or consider the popularity of an artist to be relevant to their quality, you should save your money for reading classes.

Batlord > Military Industrial Complex

In personal ranking, that is. Pretty sure that the complex is much fatter.

I Googled the acronym but assumed that the sheer lack of making any ****ing sense meant that AMVETS couldn't mean that.

You call them and they pick up. Easy peasy. We've donated a ton and I get to right it off. My tiny way of exploiting the tax system.
