It's still so totally mind blowing to think that three of the most important and influential guitarists in the annuls of rock were members of that band.

The influence of the "rave up" concept....:clap::clap::clap:

Let be honest, the most influential guitar player in the UK during the 60s was Hank Marvin.

I don't know, Chula. The Shadows are one of the greatest instrumental bands ever. Their version of Apache is hands down better than anyone else's version.

You said most influential. You didn't say most prolific, most recorded, or most heard on radio. But if you go by that measure than Hal Blaine is better than Bonzo, Herbie Flowers is better than John Paul Jones, and Asha Bhosle is better than Robert Plant. Sorry dude, you made the criteria. Not me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Check your Guinness World Records ol' man, more people in the world heard of Ukulele Ike than Led Zeppelin.

I'll go with The Kinks with The Who close behind.

Karengirl 12-31-2018 10:59 PM

The Yardbirds one of most influential classic Brit. bands, but I'm including a very lesser-known and underrated one (b/c not seeing any kinda posts/threads for obscure):

Spooky Tooth
(esp. all songs off Spooky Two)

^ Great band, great album.

Congrats on making quite an unexpected choice, Karengirl! I don't know much about Spooky Tooth, but I always liked the name.

You can tell it's the holidays because, absent a poll for this thread, I've tallied up the votes so far, or I should say, the mentions. Here they in points order (one point per mention):-

9 points: Beatles, Stones
8 points: Who
6 points: Kinks
3 points: Yardbirds
2 points: Cream, Dave Clark, Hollies, Shadows, Spooky Tooth, Zombies
1 point: Animals, Big Jim Sulivan, Herman's H, Led Zep, Manfred Mann, Moody Bs, Pink Floyd, Traffic

As in many races, there's also the ignominious category of "Also Ran". In this case, the also rans were actually running in the wrong race:

Beach Boys, Beastie Boys, Doors, Hendrix, Gary Lewis plus Playboys

( Of course, in a thread like this, one mention can often generate another, like the way Oriphiel supports Karengirl's rec. That still counts as a point, although it may or may not be Oriphiel's first choice of Best British Band. )

Deep purple were a product of the 60s (just) but ofcourse they dident find there feet till "in rock" which i think was 1970/71. Shades of Deep purple (the first LP) contained some good songs however

Can't say I'd consider any one of them the "best" but going by the amount of time I've probably spent listening to various 60's British bands over the years, my top ten 60's British band ranking would most likely look like this...

Beatles
Rolling Stones
Who
Pink Floyd
Led Zeppelin
Cream
Traffic
King Crimson
Yardbirds
Kinks
