The Beatles were the ones who influenced Dylan to go "electric". Dylan created a stir when he appeared at the 1965 Newport Jazz Festival with his electric guitar and backing band, the year after the Beatles first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show.

"John and the Beatles were doing things nobody was doing. Their chords were outrageous, just outrageous, and their harmonies made it all valid. Everybody else thought they were for the teenyboppers, that they were gonna pass right away. But it was obvious to me that they had staying power. I knew they were pointing the direction where music had to go."

"Paranoid is just like an anchor. It really secures everything about the metal movement in one record. It's all there: the riffs, the vocal performance of Ozzy, the song titles, what the lyrics are about. It's just a classic defining moment."
