The stones new album is pretty rock, and i don't know what you have to "stoop" to make pop tunes.

And the beatles made pop. Why are they remarkable and diverse and the stones sold out?

I'm still with the stones.

The Beatles started with pop and turned to rock, while keeping their fanbase (a very hard thing to do). The other guy is saying that the Stones went from rock to pop.

The Beatles were very diverse for many reasons, including genre experimentation, the number of instruments used and simply the musicians' creativity.

Well said.

The Beatles went from "Love Me Do" to "Helter Skelter". The Stones went from "Paint It Black" to "Miss You".

The Beatles evolved and rose to new heights, while the Stones devolved and sunk to new lows.

I'm a huge fan of the early Stones. Their "Hot Rocks 1964-1971" is still one of the best "greatest hits" compilations in Rock history. It is still the biggest selling recording they've ever had.

Unfortunately, since the mid-seventies their output has been inconsistent and unimpressive overall.

I think that always works in a bands favour. The Beatles will always be a band that people will say split up "too soon." The Stones unfortunately weren't pulled apart by a massive ego collision and a nutty oriental bird.

The Beatles went out in their prime, The Stones have been way past their prime for over 20 years, imo.

Again, your point is correct. Though I would say they've been past their prime for over 30 years.

Well...Regardless, their best albums could still rack up against the Beatles best...Im a little biased because i prefer The Beatles by a huge amount...But PTS is right about it being a subjective thing.

Everybody has their own criteria for greatness (i know i do) and they are not always the same, by one persons criteria The Beatles are greater than The Stones, by anothers criteria The Stones are greater than The Beatles, etc.

I disagree.

The Beatles broke up when they were still considered great, and that's how people will always remember them.

The Stones will be remembered by many as a band who should've known when to quit. They're reminiscent of a professional athlete who refuses to retire, then ends his career with many people either shaking their heads or booing at his weak performances.

Why do you disagree when that's pretty much what I said only in different words?

I like the Beatles more, simply because I enjoy the writing more (espically lennon's obviously). Plus they were more consistant and really grew as a band in a way I feel the Stones didn't do as much.
