Yeah, in 66 they retired from live shows to devote all their time to the studio, they were a lot more ambitious in the studio than the stones were, on revolver and sgt pepper they expeiremented with many new techniques that have since become trademark or essential in most rock music, including unheard of studio techniques such as Automatic double tracking, Varispeeding, Backmasked Instrumental Parts, Processed Vocals...The Beatles also made some of the earliest use of effects such as Phasing, Flanging, Echo and Reverb, as well as newly made studio instruments such as The Mellowtron and Tape Based Keyboard Sampler...Their experiemts with Odd Instrumental Arangements in a rock setting was also pretty innovative, Sgt Pepper featured Sitar and other indian instruments for Within You, Without You, a Clarinet section for When Im Sixty Four and an enitre symphony orcestra for A Day In The Life...Sgt Pepper is easly one of the greatest albums ever made, its considered one of the first true concept albums, and pretty much the whole progressive/art rock movement started from there...Then add that Maccartney is one of the most innovative bassists in rock and that Harrison was completely one of a kind.

Anyway sorry for the boring chatter of this post, i was merely listing some of the major Musical/Technical innovations The Beatles made that in my opinion has a much more important impact/influence on modern music than any other band in history, including The Rolling Stones in my opinion.

I never said they were alot more rock than pop. But using that same statement, we could say thats a masked way of saying, The Beatles were conformist whores while the stones were honest.

The stones refused to change the lyrics to Satisfaction to appease the american public on live television. The Beatles had nothign as raw and honest, and as down in the dirt.

Yes I did say they lasted longer, the Beatles havn't been putting out music since what the early 70's maybe? The stones are really kicking there ass in that department.

towards "boo boo's" long thing, i wasnt saying the two years like it was a bad thing about the beatles, i was saying that towards a guys quote that said somethin like "rolling stones are a better live act than the beatles" which i thought was stupid because beatles didnt even perform for that long, and reached their peak when not touring.

The Beatles Conformist? =(, name one thing about sgt peppers lonely hearts club band that is conformist, that album broke every sacred rule in rock music, The Beatles could make heavy raw music when they wanted to, they did it with Helter Skelter, I Want You(Shes So Heavy) and Revolution...The reason the beatles broke up was because of creative differences of course, that and because John and Paul couldn't stand each other, they all had pretty good solo careers and are probably the only band in history where every established member went on to have a sucessful solo career, anyway i do agree with you that the stones are the better and greater "Rock N Roll" band...But i think theres more to Rock than just Rock N Roll.

the beatles win anyday

the stones were pretty much boring white honkies who could rarely stray from the boundaries of the blues scale in many of their songs and pretty much every solo ever on any stones record
