when i think of the stones i think of haggard old men that should of given up 20 years ago. You mention the beatles watered down psychedelic pop, the stones attempts at psychedelia were terrible. its like the white stripes going all synth on us.

I don't see Sgt Peppers as being watered down at all.
Though it's not "punkish" like the bands you mentioned, which I can imagine is the main reason you don't like it. |

i think it takes alot more skill to deliver a measured, disciplined 'psychedelic' album then that which is all out mind-****. that isnt to say the latter is a bad thing, in fact piper at the gates... is my favourite floyd album and psychedelic sounds... is one of my favourites of the moment. i just think what the beatles did was a master stroke in making psychedelia accessible to a mass audience.

But of course punk-ish and punk aint the same thing. Quote:
I admit, I have a very strong biased towards Sgt. Peppers, not only because it's my favorite album, but also because it (along Mother Of Invention's Freak Out and Moody Blue's Days of Future Past) set the blueprints for progressive rock in a lot of ways. Prog started out as being more or less "diciplined" psychedelic rock. |

The beatles are the single greatest influence on pop music. They expanded what could be done with popular music with everything from revolver on.
The stones are not in the same league. I agree with LedZepStu that they should have packed it in 20 years ago. |

I'm sure if they were the biggest influence on pop music and had expanded what could be done with music I'd have heard that somewhere before. I can't imagine anyone agrees with you on that point. You're right to post your opinion here but such outlandish and sarcastic comments ruin musical discussion.
