"They [Beatles] had, and conveyed, a realization that the world and human consciousness had to change."
--Allen Ginsberg --------------- "[Sgt. Pepper] summed up so much of what we were saying politically, culturally, artistically, expressing our inner feelings and our view of the world in a way that was so revolutionary." Abbie Hoffman

"When I asked Bono last fall which band he sees as the role model for U2, he immediately answered, "The Beatles. Dare I make the comparison? I don't -- but I'm not afraid of the Beatles. You need people to jump at. The 'White Album' is still the blueprint for me. It was all there -- the songs, the ideas, the disciplined songwriting right next to the mayhem. It's mindblowing.""

The Beatles aren't really rock and roll themselves (although some of their covers are primarily that) but you can see the influence of bands like the shadows and Cliff Richard and Chuck Berry and Elvis.
