I own the complete studio album/primary live album/etc. discographies of both, so I do like Springsteen, but Young very easily wins this for me. Neil Young is a top 20 artist for me. Springsteen probably wouldn't be above #250 or so.

That seems a little unbelievable to me.

I consider myself a fan of well over 1,000 artists, and I've owned over 15,000 albums, not including stuff that I only have via downloads (which I also have a $h|^load of at this point), and not including hundreds of bootlegs I've owned only on cassette copies, etc. I'm not young, and I'm a bit OCDish when it comes to collecting stuff I like. Both these artists are in my all-time top 10, in which I normally do a 500 updated every 3-4 years or so. Currently Springsteen is at No.4, Young at No.9 for what it's worth...
Both are legendary songwriters but I'm going with Bruce simply because his live shows are unparalleled. Young's tend to be rather erratic. |

I really couldn't vote. Both have done some brilliant material, both are extremely inconsistent, but their music is so different that it seems a very odd pairing for a poll.
For the record, I have only one Springsteen album (The Rising) and no Neil Young albums, though I do have Deja Vu and I think his contribution to that is one of the high points. |

I only voted Bruce because I saw him live and he performed very well...I'm sure Neil is quite the show, too, but to be honest, I dislike both of them...The only reason I saw Bruce live is because my girlfriend's mom is a die hard fan, and she had an extra ticket. It gave me an excuse to drink far too much.

Neil can write acoustic numbers of timeless beauty-' Old Man', 'The Needle and the Damage done', 'The Old Laughing Lady' etc etc and then come out with stuff like 'Hurricane' 'Words' and 'Rust Never Sleeps'
Bruce has some moving songs and a few rockers but his output pales in comparison to the Canadian imo. |
