Neil Young , by far

On the Beach, Tonight's the Night, Zuma, Rust Never Sleeps, Time Fades Away and to a lesser extent After the Gold Rush, This Note's For You, Comes a Time, and Everybody Knows This is Nowhere are all great albums. In fact, I'd say that despite being really inconsistent, Neil Young is prolific enough that he might have fifteen or sixteen albums I really like. But I still had to pick Springsteen for his run of four flawless albums from Born to Run through Nebraska.

(Side note - these are my dad's two favorite artists.)

I mostly agree with this, but Young's Buffalo Springfield and CSNY work gives him an edge IMO.

When Springsteen began releasing albums, he was fresh and exciting to listen to and I can't really explain it but it felt good to listen. I had to go with Neil Young, simply because he's constantly reinventing his music and he's willing to go out on a limb to stay fresh. Not that all of those experiments have worked in my opinion, but i have many more young Albums then Springsteen.

No Bob Dylan, no Neil Young.

No Neil Young, no Bruce Springsteen.

As least as far as socially conscious songs based on a single strummed acoustic with a neck harmonica strapped on.

Bruce is a better song writer than a performer to me, the song he wrote for Dave Edmunds "From Small Things (Big Things One Day Come)" and the song he wrote for Elvis and then Robert Gordon "Fire" are both better songs than anything I've heard him put out. "Growin' Up" and "Atlantic City" are probably the coolest things I've heard from him. I still like him way more than Neil Young, although he has some good songs too. "Journey Through the Past" is a good song.

I can't think of any Springsteen song i actually like so i pick Neil. im not really that familiar with his career but i do like a couple of songs from him.

Neil's clearly the boss of the two.

I'm gonna go the unpopular route and say Bruce. Bruce is something I liked the first time I heard him. It took a while to get into Neil.
